Software development · Switzerland

Hi, I’m Bastien.
I learn by
building things.

Software engineering student at HEIA-FR, with a CFC from EMF and full-stack experience in Ireland. I like connecting the dots — from the interface to the backend, all the way to deployment.

Curious about how it works.
Even more curious to build it.

01 / Selected work

Ideas turned into projects.

A mix of personal ideas and technical challenges.
Each one taught me something different.

01
The recAIpe homepage with recipe discovery and generation navigation

Full-stack web application

recAIpe

A place to discover, generate and share recipes, with a little help from AI.

  • Vue.js
  • TypeScript
  • Express
  • Supabase
Inside the project

A recipe application connecting a Vue interface to an Express backend and Supabase. It brings recipe discovery, AI-assisted generation and sharing into one experience.

What I worked on

Connecting a user interface, an API and persistent data in a full-stack project.

The Mini-games for Léa game selection screen

Personal web project

Mini-games for Léa

A personal gift turned into a collection of games, with a surprise to unlock.

  • Next.js
  • Three.js
  • Framer Motion
Inside the project

A series of browser games including Tic-Tac-Toe, Memory, Snake and Simon Says. Players work through the challenges to reveal a personal message.

What I worked on

Game logic, progression and interactive interfaces, built around a personal idea.

Data platform

PEDALE

A full-stack project combining a Next.js frontend with automated database deployment on Kubernetes. Project tracking and technical documentation written in Typst.

04

Software design

Modular calculator

A command-line calculator in C++20, using syntax trees and recursive evaluation. A focus on modularity, strict compilation settings and code quality with SonarQube.

  • C++20
  • SonarQube
05

Concurrent programming

Asynchronous web scraper

A Python project exploring concurrent HTTP requests and non-blocking I/O with asyncio and aiohttp.

  • Python
  • asyncio
  • aiohttp
06

Android application

Last Mind Standing

A mobile game built with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. An exploration of native Android interfaces and interactive application development.

  • Kotlin
  • Jetpack Compose

02 / A little background

Learning the why.
Building the how.

My path started with the practical side of IT at EMF, took me to Ireland for a development internship, and continues in software engineering at HEIA-FR.

What interests me is the whole picture: how an interface connects to a backend, how data moves, and how an application actually runs.

Bastien.

Currently studying

HEIA-FR

Professional experience

A full-stack internship in Ireland

Web development · International experience

Working with React on the frontend and Java with Spring Boot on the backend. An opportunity to apply my skills in a professional environment and adapt to a new team.

Vocational training

EMF · École des Métiers de Fribourg

CFC in computer science

My starting point in IT: hardware, networks, system administration and software development. A practical foundation for understanding both applications and the infrastructure behind them.

03 / My toolkit

What I work with.

Tools I’ve used in projects, an internship and coursework.
Always with more to learn.

Interfaces & applications

Building web and mobile interfaces in personal projects, coursework and my internship in Ireland.

  • TypeScript / JavaScript
  • React
  • Next.js
  • Vue.js
  • Kotlin / Compose
  • HTML / CSS

In practice: recAIpe, Mini-games, Last Mind Standing and my internship.

Backend & programming

Connecting applications to APIs and data, and working through software design problems.

  • Java / Spring Boot
  • Python
  • C++20
  • Express
  • Prisma

In practice: full-stack development, a modular calculator and an async scraper.

Deployment & tooling

Hands-on experience through projects and labs, from containers to technical documentation.

  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • RabbitMQ
  • Git
  • CI/CD
  • SonarQube
  • Typst / LaTeX

In practice: project deployments, messaging, code quality and project logs.

The foundations

My training also covers algorithms, software design, systems and networks. I use those foundations to understand what happens beyond the framework.
